Google’s artificial intelligence assistant Gemini has surpassed 1 billion monthly active users, making it the fastest-growing product in the company’s history.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced the milestone in a post on X. He said Gemini has become the 14th Google product to reach 1 billion users.
Pichai thanked users worldwide for helping Gemini reach the milestone and credited the Gemini team, including Google Vice President Josh Woodward, for the achievement. He also hinted that “a lot more is coming” for the AI assistant.
Google has also released new data showing how Gemini is becoming part of users’ daily lives. According to the company, 63 percent of users now interact directly with Gemini or use its voice feature.
Among busy parents, voice usage is 43 percent higher than among other users.
Gemini’s use is also growing through camera and screen-sharing features. Nearly one in five Gemini Live interactions involves live camera or screen sharing in addition to voice.
These features are particularly popular among students and people interested in hands-on activities.
File uploads have also become important for students. Google said 38 percent of Gemini requests related to schoolwork include some form of file or document.
The use of Gemini’s generative AI tools is growing rapidly as well. Google said more than 150 million images are generated on the platform every day.
Users can create images, videos and audio content through the same platform, while small businesses are using the tools to produce marketing materials and other creative content.
On Android devices, Gemini can automate tasks across more than 40 popular apps, including ride bookings and restaurant reservations.
Gemini’s use on Apple devices is also growing significantly. Google said Gemini now has more than 100 million active users on iOS, while macOS users interact with the AI assistant at nearly twice the rate of users on other platforms.
Gemini’s main competitors in the AI assistant market include OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude.
According to Forbes, Google launched the Gemini app in 2024 and has since integrated the AI assistant into Android, web browsers and various Google Workspace services, including Drive, Docs and Sheets.
ChatGPT became the first AI chatbot to reach 1 billion monthly active users in 2026. Gemini’s achievement now intensifies the competition between the two leading AI assistants.
Although Anthropic’s Claude remains behind Gemini and ChatGPT in user numbers, its user base is growing rapidly.
According to Reuters, Claude had 56 million monthly active users worldwide in the second quarter of 2026, up 640 percent from the same period a year earlier.
