The administration of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) has declared all ponds on campus hazardous and banned students from entering them following the deaths of three students in separate drowning incidents.
The directive was issued in an emergency notice signed by Professor Dr Md Saiful Islam, director of the university’s Directorate of Student Welfare, on Thursday (August 13).
According to the notice, all ponds on the campus have been declared risky in consideration of student safety.
Students and others have been prohibited from entering, swimming in or bathing in any campus pond until further notice. Anyone violating the directive will be considered to have engaged in disciplinary misconduct and may face action under the university’s existing rules.
The administration urged all students and relevant individuals to strictly follow the directive and remain vigilant to ensure safety on campus.
On August 12, two students drowned while bathing in the pond adjacent to Kazi Nazrul Islam Hall.
Earlier, on July 28, a student named Arnab Saha drowned while bathing in the same pond.
Following the three deaths, the university administration decided to declare all campus ponds hazardous and prohibit access to them.
