Spider-Man: Brand New Day has crossed $700 million at the US and Canadian box office, becoming the fastest film to reach the milestone.
The Sony Pictures film had earned $704.5 million domestically by Wednesday. It now ranks sixth on the all-time North American box office chart, moving past Black Panther, which earned around $700 million.
The next film ahead of Brand New Day on the list is Top Gun: Maverick, which finished with about $718 million domestically.
The film has also made history internationally. Its overseas total has reached $1.108 billion, surpassing Spider-Man: No Way Home at $1.106 billion to become Sony’s highest-grossing film internationally.
Starring Tom Holland as Spider-Man, Brand New Day is now the 10th highest-grossing film in international box office history.
No Way Home, released in December 2021, earned $1.9 billion worldwide. It benefited from the return of former Spider-Man stars Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as well as strong audience demand following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Brand New Day also stars Zendaya, Sadie Sink and Jon Bernthal. The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton.
The movie has broken several box office records during its run. It opened with $360 million domestically, surpassing Avengers: Endgame for the biggest opening weekend in North American box office history.
It also recorded the highest-grossing first week in domestic box office history and became the second-fastest film after Endgame to cross $1 billion worldwide.
Produced by Marvel Studios and Amy Pascal, the film had a production budget of $225 million. It follows Holland’s Spider-Man as he lives a lonely life before being targeted by a mysterious enemy.
The success of Brand New Day, along with The Odyssey and Toy Story 5, has helped the 2026 summer box office cross the $4 billion mark.
It is only the second summer movie season since the COVID-19 pandemic to reach that level. The first was summer 2023, when Barbie and Oppenheimer drove the so-called “Barbenheimer” phenomenon.
Among the new films opening this weekend are Warner Bros.’ The End of Oak Street, starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, and Paramount Animation’s PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie.
