Security has been tightened across Dhaka ahead of August 15, with the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) deploying specialised units, including SWAT, bomb disposal and K-9 teams, at key locations to prevent any untoward incidents and ensure public safety.

The DMP has adopted a comprehensive, multi-layered security plan covering important installations, sensitive locations and major points across the capital as part of preparations for the day, officials said.

In a press release issued on Friday, DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Niaz Mehedi said the entire capital had been brought under heightened security to maintain law and order and address any potential threat to public safety.

Specialised police units have been deployed at strategically important locations, while additional security measures have been put in place at sensitive and crowded areas, according to the DMP.

The heightened security is aimed at preventing any possible disruption and enabling people to move safely across the city. Police units have also been instructed to remain vigilant and respond quickly to any suspicious activity or emerging security threat.

The DMP urged residents to remain alert and cooperate with law enforcement agencies during the heightened security period. It also advised people to report any suspicious persons, objects or activities to the nearest police station or law enforcement personnel.

The measures come as law enforcement agencies remain particularly vigilant over possible attempts to create disorder or carry out untoward incidents around August 15.
