Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will inaugurate the Family Card programme today (August 16), marking the formal launch of the government’s flagship social protection initiative.
The programme is expected to initially cover millions of families across the country.
As part of the inaugural ceremony, the prime minister will hand over Family Cards and distribute allowances among 94 beneficiaries in Kishoreganj , according to the report.
The Family Card initiative is aimed at providing direct financial support to low-income and vulnerable households, with the card issued in the name of the female head of the family.
The programme was a key pledge of the BNP and is intended to expand social safety-net coverage.
The government plans to gradually bring more families under the programme, with the initiative expected to become a major component of its welfare and poverty-reduction efforts.
