Stay alert against street disruptors: PM

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has urged people to remain vigilant against individuals attempting to create disorder on the streets, saying ordinary citizens suffer the most from such disruptions.

“Some people are trying to create disorder on the streets. When disorder occurs, ordinary people suffer the most. Their businesses, jobs and livelihoods are affected, while those creating the disorder benefit,” he said.

The prime minister made the remarks at a public gathering in Pakundia after arriving in Kishoreganj on Sunday (August 16).

He said the BNP had formed the government with the support of the people and urged citizens to maintain their confidence in the party.

“BNP has always stood with you, stands with the people of Bangladesh and will remain with the people of Bangladesh,” he said.

Tarique Rahman said the BNP would work for the interests of the people and would not take any action against the interests of the country and its citizens.

After arriving in Pakundia, the prime minister released fish fry into the Brahmaputra River at the Mirzapur Chairman Bari Ghat area. Thousands of party leaders, activists and supporters later welcomed him with applause at the public gathering.

He called on people to resist those working against national interests, creating disorder or obstructing programmes taken for public welfare.

“People now want peace, the rule of law, employment, education for their children and healthcare for their families. To achieve these goals, we must remain patient. At the same time, we must stay alert to those creating disorder,” he said.

The prime minister said the government’s goal was to build a welfare state and highlighted various initiatives, including the Family Card programme.

He urged people to maintain their confidence in the support they had given the BNP in the February 12 election.

After completing his Pakundia programme, the prime minister is scheduled to visit the Katiadi Card Hatchery Complex. Later, he will inaugurate National Fisheries Week 2026 and distribute national fisheries awards at the Achimita George Institute field.

His other scheduled programmes include a tree-planting event at Sholakia Ground and a Family Card distribution programme at Kishoreganj Stadium.
