Former President Mohammed Shahabuddin has said he is not planning to travel abroad for medical treatment in the near future as he is suffering from physical ailments that have severely affected his mobility.
Speaking to a media outlet on Sunday, Shahabuddin said he was having considerable difficulty walking because of numbness in his legs.
“I find it very difficult to walk now. As my legs have become numb, I can move only within a limited range. So, for the time being, I have no plans to travel anywhere,” he said.
The former president said he was undergoing regular treatment at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) and described himself as being in poor health.
He said he was also receiving consultation and treatment from specialist doctors at his Gulshan residence whenever he experienced health complications.
Shahabuddin added that he has to visit CMH whenever medical tests or further examinations are required. Since leaving Bangabhaban and moving to his Gulshan residence, he has visited CMH once for treatment, he said.
Asked about the possibility of seeking treatment abroad, the former president said any such decision would depend on the advice of his specialist doctors.
“If the doctors consider it necessary, a decision may be taken later about receiving treatment abroad,” he said.
