Japan expects Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s upcoming visit to Tokyo to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries, according to a statement from Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Tarique Rahman and his wife, Dr Zubaida Rahman, are scheduled to visit Japan from October 26 to 29 at the invitation of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.
During the visit, Takaichi will hold a meeting with Tarique Rahman and host a luncheon in his honour.
The Japanese foreign ministry said the visit would also help enhance coordination between the two countries in implementing the updated Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) vision.
Japan described Bangladesh as an important regional partner that shares common values and principles, including freedom, democracy and the rule of law.
The visit is expected to focus on expanding bilateral cooperation, trade and investment. The two countries are also discussing several memorandums of understanding (MoUs) covering sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, human resource development, skills development, civil aviation, trade, environmental conservation and local government modernisation.
Bangladesh and Japan are also expected to discuss ways to strengthen economic ties and expand cooperation in infrastructure development during the visit.
