Dhaka district administration has used a lottery to assign new workplaces to employees of 39 Union Parishads across five upazilas, aiming to keep transfers and postings free from lobbying, personal influence and nepotism.
The employees selected through the process have been instructed to join their new workplaces by August 17.
The lottery was held at the conference room of the Dhaka Deputy Commissioner’s Office on Sunday afternoon.
According to the district administration, 62 posts exist for employees across the district’s 62 Union Parishads. Of these, 59 are currently filled, while three remain vacant.
As part of the transfer process, employees serving at 39 Union Parishads were included in the lottery to determine their new postings.
A total of 26 employees participated in the lottery for postings in Keraniganj, Nawabganj and Dohar upazilas, while 13 took part for postings in Savar and Dhamrai.
Dhaka Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam said ensuring transparency, neutrality and accountability in transfers and postings was a key priority.
“We do not want to leave any scope for personal recommendations, nepotism or unethical lobbying,” she said.
She said the lottery ensured equal opportunities for all employees and would help reduce disputes and controversy over transfer decisions.
The district administration said the postings were determined through a transparent lottery in accordance with established rules. Regular transfers, it added, could help prevent undue influence arising from employees remaining in the same workplace for extended periods.
Officials hope the initiative will strengthen professionalism, neutrality and accountability among Union Parishad employees and ultimately improve public services.
All employees selected through the lottery have been ordered to join their respective new workplaces by August 17.
