The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection has fined three businesses a total of Tk 100,000 in Tangail for violating food safety regulations.
The businesses were penalised for using banned kewra water in food, storing and selling stale food, and preparing and storing food products in unhygienic conditions.
A team led by Tangail Assistant Director of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection Asaduzzaman Rumel conducted the drive on Monday in the Bara Kalibari Road and Park Bazar areas of Tangail town.
Gopal Mistanna Bhandar on Bara Kalibari Road was fined Tk 70,000 for altering the expiry date of its yoghurt and producing yoghurt and sweets in unhygienic conditions.
Sri Krishna Niramish Bhojonalaya was fined Tk 20,000 for using banned kewra water in food and storing stale food. Adi Induti Doi Ghar was fined Tk 10,000 for preparing food products in an unhygienic environment.
Asaduzzaman Rumel said such drives would continue to ensure safe food for consumers.
