DHAKA: The government has issued a notification setting the interest rates on the General Provident Fund (GPF) for government employees for the current fiscal year.

According to the notification issued by the Finance Division of the Ministry of Finance on Sunday (September 21, 2026), GPF savings will earn interest ranging from 11pc to 13pc, depending on the amount deposited.

The rates are: – 13pc for GPF balances of up to Tk 15 lakh, 12pc for balances above Tk 15 lakh and up to Tk 30 lakh and 11pc for balances exceeding Tk 30 lakh

The same rates were in effect during the previous fiscal year.

The notification comes after the government issued the Ninth National Pay Scale on Saturday (September 19). Under the new pay structure, basic salaries for officials in grades 1 to 10 have increased by up to 100%, while those in grades 11 to 20 have received increases of up to 142%. Various allowances are also expected to rise proportionately.

Institutions operating under a Contributory Provident Fund (CPF) system may determine their own profit rates in accordance with their respective rules.

Under the Bangladesh Service Rules, the GPF is a provident fund established for government officials and employees. Similar funds are maintained for employees of institutions and government services where pension schemes are not available, providing them with financial security for the future.
