Huawei has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Confucius Institute at the University of Dhaka (CIDU) to establish the institute as a registered Huawei ICT Academy, opening up new opportunities for students to receive industry-oriented training in artificial intelligence.
The MoU was signed on Monday at the Chinese Enterprise Job Fair organised as part of SINO-BANGLA DAY 2026 at the University of Dhaka.
Ma Ben, Managing Director for Public Affairs at Huawei South Asia, and Dr Yang Hui, Director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Dhaka, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations.
Under the partnership, Huawei will provide CIDU students with free access to an online, self-paced AI training programme designed to develop foundational and practical knowledge in emerging technologies.
The programme will offer structured courses covering a range of AI-related subjects, including Math Basics, Overview of AI, Intelligent Cultural Computing, AI: Principles & Applications, AI Technology & Applications, and Huawei AI Processor Development.
The initiative is expected to provide students with an opportunity to gain knowledge beyond conventional academic curricula and develop skills aligned with the rapidly evolving demands of the technology industry.
Speaking about the partnership, Ma Ben said Huawei was committed to strengthening industry-academia collaboration in Bangladesh’s ICT sector and creating new opportunities for young people.
“Through this partnership with CIDU, we aim to equip students with future-ready AI knowledge and skills that are relevant to evolving industry demands,” he said.
He added that empowering young talent through industry-oriented learning would contribute to building a skilled workforce capable of supporting Bangladesh’s digital transformation and future economic growth.
Dr Yang Hui said access to structured AI courses and global certification pathways would complement the institute’s academic programmes by exposing students to emerging technologies and international standards.
“We are confident that this partnership will enrich the learning experience at CIDU and encourage more students to explore AI as a field of study and future career,” he said.
He also thanked Huawei for the initiative to establish CIDU as a registered Huawei ICT Academy.
Bridging academia and industry
Huawei ICT Academy is a global industry-academia partnership programme designed to help bridge the gap between university education and the practical skills required by the technology sector.
Through the academy ecosystem, students can gain access to specialised training, industry-oriented learning resources and professional certification pathways, helping them prepare for employment opportunities in the digital economy.
The initiative comes at a time when demand for AI and other advanced digital skills is growing rapidly, both globally and in Bangladesh. Industry-academia partnerships are increasingly being viewed as an important way to prepare university students for emerging technology-driven jobs.
The partnership between Huawei and CIDU is therefore expected to give students greater exposure to AI technologies while encouraging them to consider careers in a sector that is expanding across industries.
Job opportunities for students
The Chinese Enterprise Job Fair also provided students with an opportunity to explore employment and career prospects with Chinese companies operating in Bangladesh.
Huawei collected CVs from aspiring students attending the fair, giving them a direct channel to explore potential employment opportunities with the company.
The company said fresh graduates join Huawei every year and build professional careers by gaining practical experience in the ICT sector.
The AI training programme and recruitment initiative together are expected to strengthen the connection between university students and the technology industry, while creating opportunities for young Bangladeshi talent to develop skills and pursue careers in emerging areas such as AI and digital technology.
