Commerce Secretary Md Ataur Rahman Khan has stressed the need for stronger coordination, closer cooperation among stakeholders, enhanced leadership skills, and greater use of technology to make market monitoring more effective, integrated and results-oriented.

Speaking at a workshop on enhancing the capacity of team leaders engaged in market monitoring at the Ministry of Commerce on Sunday, he said all agencies involved share a common goal, and that effective coordination, collaboration and quick decision-making in the field are the key challenges rather than capacity constraints.

He said motivation must be translated into practical action plans, while sharing experience and adopting effective working methods can further strengthen market management.

The secretary noted that although market monitoring is led by the Ministry of Commerce and the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, several other ministries and government agencies are also involved, making it a shared responsibility that requires coordinated field-level action.

Urging team leaders to ensure efficient and result-oriented leadership, he said every officer’s professionalism and accountability are essential to strengthening the overall market management system.

He also said, under the direction of Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muqtadir, the ministry plans to develop a Power App, introduce an AI-based model for the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), and further upgrade the existing market monitoring app to improve field-level market surveillance.
