Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has approved a grant of Tk 3 crore from the Prime Minister’s Relief and Welfare Fund for the celebration of Christmas 2026, exceeding the original request by Tk 1 crore.
The Christian Religious Welfare Trust had sought Tk 2 crore to support celebrations and related religious and social welfare activities across the country. However, the prime minister directed that the allocation be increased to Tk 3 crore.
According to sources at the Prime Minister’s Office, Tarique Rahman approved the proposal on Monday after it was submitted by the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
The allocation will be made from the Prime Minister’s Relief and Welfare Fund through the ministry.
Christmas, the largest religious festival of the Christian community, will be celebrated across Bangladesh on December 25.
In its proposal, the Ministry of Religious Affairs said the special grant was needed to facilitate religious and social welfare programmes organised by the Christian Religious Welfare Trust in different parts of the country.
The ministry had initially recommended allocating Tk 2 crore to the trust for the 2026 Christmas celebrations. The prime minister subsequently approved an additional Tk 1 crore, bringing the total allocation to Tk 3 crore.
