Indian army chief conferred honorary general rank by Nepal

Indian Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth has been conferred the honorary rank of General of the Nepal Army.

Nepal President Ram Chandra Paudel conferred the honorary rank on General Seth at a ceremony held at Shital Niwas, the presidential residence in Kathmandu, on Monday.

The honor was bestowed as part of a tradition dating back to 1950, under which Nepal and India confer the honorary rank of General on each other’s army chiefs.

During his four-day visit to Nepal, General Seth also held talks with Nepal Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel. The two discussed matters of mutual interest and ways to further strengthen military ties between the two countries.

According to a press release from President Paudel’s Secretariat, Nepal Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav, Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal, Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava, and senior officials from the Nepal Army and government attended the ceremony.

General Seth arrived in Nepal on Sunday.
