There is no new information yet regarding Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s possible visit to India, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam said on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she said she had no update on the prime minister’s visit. “Whenever a visit to any country is finalised, the Prime Minister’s Office will make the announcement,” she said.
Earlier, Foreign Ministry spokesperson AKM Shahidul Karim said Bangladesh and India had been in communication for several weeks over the proposed visit.
However, Dhaka believes that a conducive environment needs to be created for the bilateral trip.
Bangladesh has also requested India to expedite the extradition of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and other fugitives, as well as suspects accused in the murder of Sharif Osman Hadi.
