Chittagong: A seminar focusing on chemical safety and future career guidelines for upcoming chemists was held on Thursday, at the Department of Chemistry, Chittagong University.
The seminar was organized under the supervision of the Bangladesh National Authority for Chemical Weapons Convention (BNACWC) and in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry, Chittagong University, under the framework of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC). The primary objectives of the event were to ensure chemical safety and to assist the next generation of chemists in selecting their future career fields.
The seminar saw active participation from the faculty members and students of all academic years of the university’s Chemistry Department. The honorable Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong University graced the event as the Chief Guest.
The seminar was also attended by Commodore Md Monir Uddin Mallik, (TAS), NPPC, NDC, PSC, BN, who serves as the Member Secretary of BNACWC and Director General of the Civil and Military Liaison Directorate, Armed Forces Division.
During the sessions, speakers delivered detailed presentations and led discussions on chemical safety, security, and the risks associated with the dual-use of chemicals. The speakers emphasized that chemical safety is not merely a legal obligation, but a profound moral responsibility for future engineers and scientists.
This seminar was organized as part of BNACWC’s ongoing awareness-raising campaigns at major educational institutions across Bangladesh. These initiatives aim to educate and sensitize the youth in line with the Chemical Weapons Convention.
