Bangladesh received over $2 billion in remittances during the first 19 days of August, driven by a sharp rise in inflows through formal banking channels, central bank data showed.
According to figures released by Bangladesh Bank, non-resident Bangladeshis remitted $2.03 billion between August 1 and 19 for the fiscal year 2026–27. This represents a 29.1 percent surge compared to the $1.57 billion received during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year. Inflows on August 19 alone reached $64 million.
The strong August performance brought cumulative remittance receipts for the current fiscal year (July 1 to August 19) to $4.89 billion—a 20.7 percent increase from the $4.05 billion recorded during the same period in FY26.
Central bank officials credited the robust, sustained growth to competitive exchange rates, streamlined banking channels, and targeted policy incentives that encourage migrant workers to send money home through official routes.
