Roads to remain closed ahead of presidential oath

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed special traffic restrictions around Bangabhaban ahead of the oath-taking ceremony of newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday, August 21.

The restrictions will remain in effect from 3pm to 9pm to ensure smooth movement of invited guests attending the ceremony, scheduled for 7:30pm at Bangabhaban.

According to DMP, all vehicular movement will be prohibited from the Alico Gap at Motijheel’s Shapla Chattar through the Dilkusha commercial area (Bangabhaban Road) to Rajuk Crossing (DIT Road) during the restricted period.

Buses travelling from Shapla Chattar and Dainik Bangla towards Rajuk and Gulistan will use the Dainik Bangla–UBL–Press Club route.

Commercial vehicles will not be allowed to travel from Dainik Bangla towards Rajuk.

Vehicles coming from the Hanif Flyover will not be allowed to make a U-turn at Zero Point.

They may turn left towards Fulbaria or right at UBL Crossing and proceed towards Dainik Bangla and Shapla Chattar.

DMP has advised motorists to avoid the affected roads and use alternative routes where possible.

The restrictions will not apply to vehicles carrying invited guests to Bangabhaban.
