Bangladesh’s newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir began his official duties at Bangabhaban for the first time on Sunday (August 23).
The President arrived at Bangabhaban at around 11am, where a smartly dressed mounted police unit welcomed him at Gate No. 2.
Later, a smart contingent of the Bangladesh Army’s President Guard Regiment (PGR) accorded him a guard of honour at the Credentials Field.
After the guard of honour, President’s Military Secretary Major General ASM Bahauddin, Secretary of the Public Division AJM Salahuddin Nagari, Press Secretary Md Sarwar Alam and PGR Commander Brigadier General Golam Arikul Alam welcomed the President and his family members with flowers at the Octagonal.
On his first day at Bangabhaban, President Mirza Fakhrul stayed in his office and signed official documents.
He later signed the visitors’ book at Bangabhaban.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was elected by the Jatiya Sangsad on August 20 and took oath as the country’s 23rd president on August 21.
