A group of Japanese teachers has completed an eight-day training visit to Bangladesh under the Japan International Cooperation Agency’s (JICA) “Overseas Training for Teachers” programme.
The teachers visited Bangladesh from August 5 to 13, gaining first-hand experience of the country’s education system, infrastructure development, public services and Japan’s cooperation programmes in Bangladesh.
The long-running programme aims to give Japanese teachers practical exposure to international cooperation and help them raise awareness of global issues among their students. Participants are expected to share their overseas experiences with students and colleagues after returning to Japan.
During their visit, the teachers toured schools operated by government, private and non-profit organisations. They also visited Dhaka University, the Directorate of Primary Education, Primary Teachers Training Institutes and Kumon centres.
Beyond Dhaka, the group observed educational activities in other cities and rural areas, allowing them to gain a broader understanding of Bangladesh’s education landscape.
The teachers also visited a Japanese company at the Adamjee Export Processing Zone (EPZ) to learn about Japanese businesses operating in Bangladesh’s industrial sector.
Their programme also included visits to Dhaka MRT, public healthcare facilities and waste management centres, giving them insights into Bangladesh’s infrastructure, public services and development efforts, as well as Japan’s contribution to various sectors.
At the JICA Bangladesh office, the teachers received briefings on ongoing JICA projects and cooperation programmes in the country, helping them connect their field experiences with the broader Bangladesh-Japan partnership.
Direct interactions with Bangladeshi students, teachers, professionals and local communities were among the highlights of the visit.
One participant said, “I will definitely share the experiences I gained in Bangladesh with my students.” Another teacher said, “I learned so much during this week. I would like to visit this country again.”
The visit provided the teachers with a closer look at the growing and multifaceted relationship between Bangladesh and Japan, spanning education, infrastructure, industry and public services.
After returning to Japan, the teachers are expected to incorporate their experiences into classroom lessons and teaching materials and share them with colleagues and students, further strengthening educational and cultural ties between the two countries.
