The portfolios of the two state ministers at Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs—Humayun Kabir and Shama Obaed Islam—have been allocated.
According to a circular issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday (August 23), Humayun Kabir will serve as State Minister for Foreign Affairs-1, while Shama Obaed Islam will serve as State Minister for Foreign Affairs-2. Both will assist Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman in discharging his duties.
Humayun Kabir will oversee bilateral and multilateral affairs, non-resident Bangladeshis, and any other matters assigned to him by the foreign minister.
Shama Obaed will be responsible for the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, human rights, research and innovation, environment and climate change, creative economy, LDC graduation, ICT, maritime law and marine resources, global health diplomacy, and cultural and sports diplomacy.
Humayun Kabir recently joined the government as a technocrat state minister.
Shama Obaed had already been serving as a state minister at the Foreign Ministry. The new allocation formalises the division of responsibilities between the two.
