Chinese President Xi Jinping has congratulated Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on assuming office as Bangladesh’s new president, expressing his commitment to further strengthening the longstanding friendly ties between Bangladesh and China.

In a congratulatory message on Monday (August 24), Xi described China and Bangladesh as traditionally friendly neighbours and said that over the 51 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have maintained mutual respect, equality and cooperation on each other’s important interests and concerns.

Xi said China and Bangladesh have worked together on their respective paths to modernisation, while bilateral ties have withstood various tests amid a rapidly changing international environment.

He said China attaches great importance to developing relations with Bangladesh and expressed his willingness to work with Mirza Fakhrul to advance the two countries’ traditional friendship and strengthen strategic communication.

Xi also said China wants to advance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields, further strengthening the China-Bangladesh community with a shared future in the new era.

He expressed hope that the progress in bilateral relations would bring greater benefits to the people of both countries.
