Denmark will provide financial assistance for the third phase of the Sayedabad Water Treatment Plant project as part of its support for improving water supply management in Dhaka, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam said on Tuesday.

He made the remarks after a meeting with Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh Christian Brix Møller at the Secretariat.

Shahe Alam said Denmark would provide Tk 4,500 crore for the Tk 16,000-crore third phase of the Sayedabad Water Treatment Plant project.

Of the Danish assistance, Tk 1,500 crore will be provided as a grant, while the remaining Tk 3,000 crore will be repaid by the government in phases over the next 20 years, he said.

“Once the project is implemented, it will be possible to treat 95 crore litres of water from the Meghna River,” the state minister said.

He added that Denmark would also provide Tk 100 crore in assistance for Rohingyas.

The Danish ambassador called on LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan and State Minister Mir Shahe Alam at the Secretariat earlier in the day.
