Dhaka load shedding adjusted to boost power supply in rural areas

The government has taken an initiative to adjust load shedding in Dhaka and redistribute the saved electricity to rural areas amid the ongoing power shortage, the Power Division said on Tuesday.

The move comes as rural areas have been experiencing prolonged power cuts due to a severe gas shortage that has reduced electricity generation.

Under the initiative, load shedding in Dhaka will be managed in a way that allows more electricity to be supplied to areas outside the capital, where the situation has been particularly severe.

The country’s power crisis has deepened in recent weeks as shortages of gas and LNG have disrupted power generation.

At times, rural areas have faced 10–12 hours of load shedding a day.

Power Grid Bangladesh data also show significant gaps between electricity demand and supply in recent days, highlighting the continuing pressure on the national grid.
