Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck made a stopover in Dhaka on Wednesday, where he was received by President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

During their meeting, the Bhutanese King congratulated President Mirza Fakhrul on assuming office and conveyed his good wishes to him.

The President, in turn, conveyed warm greetings to the King and members of the Bhutanese royal family on behalf of the people and government of Bangladesh.

President Mirza Fakhrul highlighted the deep and historic ties between Bangladesh and Bhutan, noting that Bhutan was the first country in the world to recognise Bangladesh as an independent state on December 6, 1971.

He also recalled the special goodwill and affection shown towards Bangladesh by the Bhutanese King’s father, King Jigme Singye Wangchuck.
