DMP arrests 500 in 53 cases across Dhaka

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 500 people in the past 24 hours during routine anti-crime operations across the capital, filing 53 cases and recovering a large quantity of drugs and other evidence.

The arrests were made by different DMP units. Mirpur recorded the highest number with 136 arrests, followed by Tejgaon with 71, Motijheel with 63, Wari with 58, Gulshan with 57, Lalbagh with 40, Uttara with 32 and Ramna with 31.

Detectives arrested 10 people, while two were detained by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit.

During the operations, police seized four motorcycles, four CNG-powered auto-rickshaws, five fake number plates, 1,266 Indian sarees, two monitors, eight mobile phones, 16 baskets allegedly used in theft, eight keys, a pair of cutting scissors and a latch.

Police also recovered 26.16kg of cannabis, 7,212 yaba tablets, 5.5 grams of heroin and 440 bottles of Eskaf syrup (phensedyl).

The arrests and seizures were made during raids conducted in different police station areas of the capital as part of the DMP’s regular crime-control drive.

Legal proceedings against the arrested individuals are underway.
