Bangladesh has urged Qatar to prioritise liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies to the country once the Strait of Hormuz reopens and maritime traffic resumes.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir made the request during a meeting with Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi on the sidelines of the 23rd OIC Extraordinary Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Jeddah, according to a Foreign Ministry press release.
Kabir reaffirmed Bangladesh’s support for Qatar’s mediation efforts between Iran and the United States and praised Doha’s constructive role in promoting dialogue, regional peace and stability.
Amid disruptions to maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, the state minister urged Qatar to give priority to LNG shipments to Bangladesh once the strategic waterway reopens and shipping operations resume.
Al-Muraikhi thanked Bangladesh for its support and expressed Qatar’s readiness to further strengthen cooperation with Dhaka in the energy sector.
The two ministers also discussed other issues of mutual interest.
