Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami organised a free circumcision camp for around 400 children in Laksam of Cumilla on Saturday.

The day-long programme was held at the premises of Laksam Pilot Government High School, drawing children, parents and a large number of local residents in a festive atmosphere.

Led by Dr Tarequl Islam, around 50 experienced technicians provided services through 123 booths using digital devices.

The circumcisions were performed under the supervision of experienced medical professionals, using device-based and cosmetic surgical techniques.

The programme was organised under the overall supervision of Mohammad Badiul Alam Sujon, Jamaat-backed mayoral candidate for the Laksam municipality election.

Dr Syed AKM Sarwar Uddin Siddiqui, a member of Jamaat’s Central Majlish-e-Shura and secretary of its Cumilla South District unit, attended the inaugural session as chief guest.

The event was conducted by Mohammad Shahid Ullah, secretary of Laksam Municipality Jamaat. AKM Shah Alam, vice-president of the Cumilla South District Labour Welfare Federation; Maulana Shahabuddin Haider, its secretary; and Mohammad Nur-e-Alam, assistant secretary of Laksam Municipality Jamaat, were among those present as special guests.

Speakers said the initiative was undertaken as part of their social and religious responsibility to provide free circumcision services to children from the local community. They said necessary medical support was ensured under the supervision of experienced professionals to minimise health risks and ensure safe treatment.
