Bangladesh-India relations cannot remain stuck in the past, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi said on Tuesday, stressing the need to expand trade and people-to-people ties between the two neighbours.
He made the remarks after a meeting with the local government minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan and state minister Mir Shahe Alam at the Secretariat in Dhaka.
“Neighbours are neither big nor small. India wants to strengthen ties between the people of the two countries,” Trivedi said.
Referring to his visit to the ministry on the occasion of BNP’s founding anniversary, he said Bangladesh’s elected government was best placed to understand the country’s politics.
He also emphasised the importance of strengthening people-to-people relations and exploring ways to increase bilateral trade.
Local Government State Minister Mir Shahe Alam said the meeting included an exchange of experiences on local government elections. He said conducting the elections would be a challenging task for the government.
