Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Secretary General Anda Filip left Dhaka last night after concluding her visit to Bangladesh.
Filip arrived in Dhaka on August 30 and held a series of meetings with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikrom, Leader of the Opposition Dr Md Shafiqur Rahman, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed, women parliamentarians and lawmakers who had faced political persecution.
During the meetings, she emphasised the importance of democratic reconstruction in Bangladesh and strengthening cordial relations and cooperation among parliamentarians.
As part of her visit, the IPU Secretary General visited the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban and the July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum, according to a press release issued by the Parliament Secretariat.
Additional Secretary of the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat and other relevant officials of the Secretariat saw her off at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Wednesday.
