Mirza Abbas returning home after five months of treatment

BNP Standing Committee member and Prime Minister’s Political Adviser Mirza Abbas is returning to Bangladesh on Wednesday, September 2, after undergoing treatment and rehabilitation in Singapore and Malaysia for nearly five and a half months.

According to BNP Media Cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan, Abbas is scheduled to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at around 9:00pm on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight.

His wife, Afroza Abbas, said he received clearance from his medical board to return home.

His physical condition has improved considerably, although he will need to continue treatment and rehabilitation, including physiotherapy, after returning to Bangladesh.

Abbas suddenly lost consciousness while having iftar at his Dhaka residence on March 11. He was admitted to Evercare Hospital, where doctors performed emergency brain surgery.

Four days later, he was flown by air ambulance to Singapore General Hospital for advanced treatment.

After nearly a month in Singapore, doctors advised him to undergo physiotherapy. He was subsequently transferred to Prince Court Medical Centre in Malaysia, where he continued treatment and rehabilitation. His condition reportedly improved significantly.

Abbas, who is also the Dhaka-8 lawmaker, remained away from political activities during his prolonged treatment abroad.
