Police have arrested six Chinese nationals in Cox’s Bazar over their alleged involvement in an international online fraud operation, recovering nearly 2,000 iPhones, dozens of laptops and other electronic equipment.
The suspects were arrested during a raid on Hotel Sea Palace in Cox’s Bazar town between Thursday night and Friday morning (September 3–4), 2026.
According to police, 1,938 iPhones and around 30–40 laptops were recovered from the hotel. Investigators also found several devices resembling communication equipment used by police, along with Chinese police rank badges, a Chinese national flag and a tie bearing a police logo.
Cox’s Bazar Additional Superintendent of Police Ahidur Rahman said the raid was conducted based on information provided by Dhaka police following a complaint filed at Ramu Police Station.
The suspects are allegedly connected to online fraud targeting people in Bangladesh and abroad.
Police said the six were arrested under the Cyber Security Act and produced before the Cox’s Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
The court subsequently ordered them to be sent to jail pending further investigation.
Authorities are investigating the purpose of the large stock of iPhones, laptops and communication equipment and the suspects’ alleged links to the wider online fraud network.
