President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is visiting his home district of Thakurgaon for the first time since assuming office as the country’s 23rd president.
He is scheduled to begin a two-day visit to the district on Sunday, September 6.
The president is scheduled to leave Dhaka by helicopter at around 10:00am and arrive at Thakurgaon’s Shaheed Mohammad Ali Stadium at about 11:40am.
He will then proceed to the district circuit house, where he will receive a guard of honour.
During the first day of his visit, President Fakhrul will pay respects at the graves of his late parents at the family cemetery in Senua.
He will later attend a civic reception at the Thakurgaon Government Boys’ High School field, organised by a citizens’ committee.
The president is also scheduled to meet local dignitaries, relatives and other people at his residence in the town.
On the second day, he is expected to lay the foundation stone of the proposed Thakurgaon University in Jamalpur area of Sadar upazila before returning to Dhaka by helicopter.
The visit has generated a festive atmosphere across Thakurgaon, with the local administration taking extensive security and logistical measures ahead of the president’s arrival.
