TEHRAN, Sept 5: At least 10 people were killed and six others injured when a fuel tanker exploded following a traffic accident on a highway in western Iran, Iranian state media reported.
The tanker was traveling on the Hamedan-Sanandaj Highway when it was involved in a crash. Sanandaj Governor Hassan Asadi said the accident was caused by a technical fault in the vehicle’s braking system.
The crash triggered a major fire that spread to several vehicles at the scene. Firefighters later brought the blaze under control, officials said.
The injured were taken to a hospital in Sanandaj for treatment.
Authorities are investigating the incident, while the identities of those killed have not yet been released.
