A Chittagong University (CU) teacher has been temporarily suspended for allegedly making a derogatory post about the July 2024 mass uprising on social media.

The suspended teacher is Dr Mohammad Abdul Wahed Chowdhury, an associate professor of the Department of Zoology.

According to university sources, he posted the controversial remarks on his Facebook profile on July 3. A screenshot of the post later circulated on social media, sparking criticism on the campus.

Following the incident, the university formed a three-member preliminary investigation committee on July 12.

Based on the committee’s findings, the university’s 568th Syndicate meeting on September 4 decided to suspend him temporarily.

The university has also formed another committee for a further investigation into the matter.
