The assistant commissioner (land) of Jamalganj upazila in Sunamganj has been withdrawn following a controversial Facebook post holding the upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) responsible for his death, according to local media reports.
The officer, Arifur Rahman Shanto, reportedly published the post from an account named “AC Land Jamalganj” on Friday night, October 23. Another post on the account stated that he was resigning from the administration cadre.
The posts triggered concern in the area. The UNO, Shilpi Rani Modak, later claimed that the officer’s account had been hacked and urged people not to be misled by the messages.
The circumstances surrounding the posts remain unclear.
Shanto was taken to hospital after officials and police visited his residence.
He initially received treatment in Sylhet before being taken to Dhaka for further medical care, reports said.
