The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has decided to conduct a joint investigation into allegations of corruption, irregularities and illegal wealth accumulation against former Cabinet Secretary and former Power Division Secretary Dr Ahmed Kaikaus, linking them with alleged corruption in Bangladesh’s power purchase agreement with India’s Adani Power.
ACC Deputy Director and Public Relations Officer Md Aktarul Islam confirmed the decision at a press conference at the commission’s Segunbagicha headquarters in Dhaka on Monday.
He said an inquiry team was already investigating allegations of irregularities and corruption surrounding the controversial power purchase agreement between Adani Power Ltd and the Bangladesh government.
Separately, the commission has been looking into allegations that Dr Kaikaus abused his power, was involved in various irregularities and accumulated a large amount of illegal wealth.
As the two sets of allegations are considered interconnected, the commission has ordered that they be combined for a coordinated investigation, Mr Islam said.
He added that the ACC would seek to complete the sensitive investigation as quickly as possible and take legal action against those found responsible.
