US sanctions 36 Iranian entities

The United States has imposed sanctions on 36 Iranian entities, including 27 airlines, over their alleged involvement in supporting Iran’s aviation sector.

The US Treasury Department announced the new sanctions in a statement on Tuesday, accusing the Iranian government of using its aviation industry to facilitate the transportation of weapons, personnel and illicit goods.

The Treasury said the measures target entities that allegedly help provide financial support or sustain Iran’s economy, continuing Washington’s broader campaign to restrict revenue and economic channels available to the Iranian government.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the sanctions serve as a clear warning to companies and individuals maintaining business ties with the targeted Iranian airlines.

“Those who continue doing business with sanctioned Iranian airlines risk losing access to the international financial system,” he said.

The latest measures further increase US pressure on Iran’s aviation sector.

Washington says it will continue using sanctions to disrupt financial and economic support for activities it considers destabilising or illicit.
