Police have arrested six people, including two members of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) and an Ansar member, over the alleged abduction of a businessman and an attempt to extort Tk 1 million from him in Dhaka.
According to the case statement, the victim, Mohammad Sharif, a motorcycle trader from Shyamoli, was lured to a house in Chandrima Model Town on Saturday under the pretext of buying a motorcycle.
The complainant alleged that several people later arrived at the house, assaulted him and demanded Tk 1 million.
He reportedly paid Tk 70,000, but the suspects allegedly continued beating him when they were not satisfied with the amount.
The victim was subsequently confined to the house and forced to contact his family to arrange more money.
Around 3:00am, the suspects allegedly took him to a Toyota vehicle and left it near the Children’s Hospital in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
When they got out to have tea, the businessman spotted a police patrol vehicle and sought help.
Police rescued him and arrested all six suspects. The arrestees include two DGFI personnel, an Ansar member and a private security guard.
The suspects were later handed over to Mohammadpur Police Station and sent to court.
