Bangladeshi actress Azmeri Haque Badhon has filed a police complaint in Venice, Italy, naming eight Bangladeshi nationals over an alleged attack and harassment in Mestre.

Badhon alleged that the group threw water, soft drinks and eggs at her and physically assaulted her, while also knocking her phone from her hand. She said the incident was linked to her role in Bangladesh’s July-August 2024 mass uprising.

According to reports, Badhon was accompanied by her brother, sister-in-law and their young child when the incident occurred.

She alleged that some of the attackers identified themselves as supporters of the Awami League and Bangladesh Chhatra League.

Badhon was in Venice to attend the Venice International Film Festival with the cast and crew of The Difficult Bride, directed by Rubaiyat Hossain.

The Bangladesh Consulate General in Milan and the Bangladesh Embassy in Rome are providing her with consular and legal assistance.

The Italian police’s Digos unit has reportedly opened an investigation and examined security-camera footage from the area.

Badhon had earlier said she would not leave Venice until she pursued legal action over the incident.
