The LNG carrier Maran Gas Olympias is heading towards Maheshkhali and is expected to arrive at the floating LNG terminal there by Thursday afternoon, according to an official involved in LNG imports for Petrobangla.

The Greek-flagged tanker will supply LNG to Summit Power’s floating terminal. The terminal is currently supplying around 450 million cubic feet (mmcf) of gas per day, which is expected to rise by another 100 mmcf after the new cargo is added.

The increase is expected to boost gas supply from Thursday night.

The Maran Gas Olympias is 295 metres long, 46 metres wide and has a capacity of 95,194 metric tonnes. It is the third LNG carrier to arrive in Bangladesh this month, following two shipments on September 2 and 4.

Bangladesh has planned to import 10 LNG cargoes this month, with schedules announced for eight. Further shipments are expected on September 13, 16, 18, 23 and 28 from Posco, Gunvor, Aramco and TotalEnergies.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given in-principle approval to import 18 LNG cargoes directly from TotalEnergies to meet the country’s urgent gas demand.

Under the approved plan, Bangladesh will import two cargoes per month from October 2026 through June 2027, bringing the total to 18 cargoes.
