Bangladesh condemns Israel’s West Bank settlement plan

Bangladesh has strongly condemned Israel’s plan to establish settlements in the E1 area of the occupied West Bank, saying such actions violate international law and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.

In a statement on Thursday, Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Israel’s settlement activities further undermine the territorial integrity of the occupied Palestinian territories and diminish the prospects for a viable two-state solution.

Dhaka urged Israel to immediately halt all settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories and reaffirmed its steadfast support for the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.

Bangladesh said the Palestinian people have the right to establish an independent and sovereign state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

It also called on the international community to strengthen diplomatic efforts to prevent actions that undermine Palestinian statehood and stressed the need for a just, comprehensive and lasting peace in the Middle East based on international law and the two-state solution.

Bangladesh reaffirmed its commitment to standing with the Palestinian people and supporting their legitimate aspirations for freedom, dignity, justice and statehood.

Dhaka has consistently supported Palestinian sovereignty and condemned the Israeli occupation.
