Bangladesh and China have held wide-ranging bilateral discussions covering infrastructure, energy, human resource development, economic cooperation, and joint collaboration on the Bangladesh-China-Myanmar Economic Corridor (BCMEC).
The discussions took place when Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam at her office. A press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the meeting.
During the call, both sides exchanged views on multiple issues of mutual interest. Key priorities included the progress of the Bangladesh-China-Myanmar Economic Corridor, the development of the Chinese Economic Zone, and modernizing Mongla Port.
The two sides also discussed several prospective projects and social initiatives, including the proposed 1,000-bed hospital in Rangpur, education and capacity-building programs, expanding people-to-people exchanges, renewable energy partnerships, and women’s empowerment initiatives.
State Minister Shama Obaid recalled the successful visit of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to China, expressing appreciation for Beijing’s sustained support toward Bangladesh’s development, particularly in infrastructure, human development, and capacity building.
Ambassador Yao Wen reaffirmed China’s commitment to Bangladesh as a trusted partner and friend, emphasizing the significant momentum achieved in bilateral relations in recent years.
As part of efforts to strengthen economic and social ties, the Chinese envoy extended an invitation to the State Minister to lead a delegation of Bangladeshi women entrepreneurs on a visit to China at a convenient time. State Minister Shama Obaid welcomed the invitation and expressed her gratitude for the initiative.
