Dhaka: A total of 499 people were arrested in regular operations conducted by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) across the capital over the past 24 hours. During the same period, 49 cases were filed.
DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Md Akter Hossain confirmed the information on Wednesday (September 16).
Of those arrested, 41 were detained by the Ramna Division, 36 by Lalbagh, 57 by Wari, 56 by Motijheel, 86 by Tejgaon, 131 by Mirpur, 38 by Gulshan, 49 by Uttara and five by the Detective Branch.
During the operations, police seized one foreign-made pistol, one magazine, three rounds of ammunition, five machetes, two swords, one knife, 395 yaba tablets, 438 bottles of Phensedyl, 2.4 kilograms of cannabis, 45 bottles of foreign liquor, four mobile phones, one gold earring, nine fuel papers, three gas lighters, three plastic bottles used for consuming yaba and Tk 25,000 in cash.
The DMP said legal action is being taken against those arrested.
