The Election Commission (EC) has finalised 120 electoral symbols for the upcoming parliamentary elections, while keeping the “Boat” symbol suspended.

The EC issued a gazette notification on Wednesday (September 16), amending the Election Conduct Rules, 2008.

Under the revised rules, candidates may be allocated any available symbol from the prescribed list, except those marked as suspended.

The list includes symbols such as pineapple, apple, mango, eagle, truck, tractor, book, bicycle, rocket, rickshaw, plough, scissors, umbrella, football, mobile phone, lion, elephant, hammer, helicopter and handshake.

The “No” symbol has also been added to the list. It will be used on the ballot in constituencies where there is only one candidate, allowing voters to exercise their voting choice.

The notification was issued under Article 94 of the Representation of the People Order, 1972, through amendments to Rule 9(1) of the Election Conduct Rules.

The EC also made changes to nomination forms concerning bank account information for election expenses and amended some requirements related to candidates’ affidavits.
