Bangladesh suffered another heavy defeat in women’s football at the Asian Games, losing 6-0 to South Korea on Thursday after being thrashed 10-0 by North Korea in their opening match.
South Korea dominated from the start at Nagai Stadium in Osaka, scoring twice in the first half before adding four more goals after the break.
Kim Min-ji opened the scoring in the 16th minute. Bangladesh tried to regain their footing after conceding, but struggled to contain South Korea’s attacks.
Jung Da-bin doubled the lead in the 42nd minute as South Korea went into halftime 2-0 ahead.
The Koreans continued their dominance after the restart. Cho Yu-ri made it 3-0 in the 65th minute before Ji So-yun and Hyun Seul-gi scored within two minutes of each other in the 77th and 79th minutes.
Ko Yu-jin completed the scoring in added time in the 91st minute.
The statistics reflected South Korea’s dominance. Bangladesh had only around 30% possession and managed just one shot on target. Goalkeeper Rupna Chakma made several saves, including six that prevented an even heavier defeat.
The loss leaves Bangladesh with defeats in both of their group-stage matches and makes their route to the quarter-finals considerably more difficult.
Bangladesh will play Myanmar in their final group match on September 21, with the result crucial to their hopes of remaining in the competition.
