Vegetable prices have increased in Dhaka’s kitchen markets over the past week, with most varieties becoming Tk10–30 more expensive per kilogram. Meanwhile, chicken and hilsa prices have fallen amid increased supply.

The situation was observed during visits to Taltala, Agargaon and Shewrapara markets in the capital on Friday.

Among the vegetables, brinjal was selling for Tk100–160 per kg, up Tk20 from the previous week. Tomatoes were Tk100–160, bitter gourd Tk80–100 and green chillies Tk100–120.

However, shoppers said prices had not fallen as much as expected despite increased supply during the peak hilsa season. Traders said large supplies could push prices down further next week.

Chicken eggs were selling for Tk150–155 per dozen, duck eggs Tk200 per dozen, while local chicken eggs cost Tk100 for four and Sonali cock eggs Tk70 for four.
