The price of green chillies has fallen by Tk 150 per kilogram in Dhaka’s kitchen markets over the past week following imports from abroad.
Green chillies are now selling for Tk 240–280 per kg.
Meanwhile, most vegetables are still selling for Tk 80–100 or more per kg, with only a few exceptions. Chicken prices, however, remain at last week’s high levels.
The situation was observed during visits to Shewrapara and Taltola markets in the capital on Friday (August 7).
Green chillies were selling for Tk 60–80 per 250 grams, or Tk 240–280 per kg, depending on quality. Last week, the price was Tk 400–440 per kg.
Other vegetables also remain expensive. Eggplants were selling for Tk 100–180 per kg, tomatoes Tk 140–200, and bitter gourds Tk 100–120. Pointed gourds, okra, teasel gourds and ridge gourds were priced at Tk 80–100 per kg, depending on quality. Papaya was Tk 40 and potatoes Tk 30 per kg.
Onions, however, became cheaper by Tk 5 per kg over the week and were selling for Tk 50–55.
Colocasia stems were priced at Tk 80–100 per kg, colocasia corms Tk 80, cucumbers Tk 80–100, yardlong beans Tk 100, carrots Tk 140 and sweet pumpkins Tk 60 per kg.
A dozen lemons were selling for Tk 15–30. Local coriander leaves cost Tk 300 per kg, while hybrid coriander leaves were Tk 240. Four green bananas were selling for Tk 40, ash gourds for Tk 60–80 each and capsicums for Tk 350 per kg.
Chicken prices remained high. Sonali chicken was selling for Tk 330 per kg, Sonali hybrid chicken Tk 300, red-layer chicken Tk 350, broiler chicken Tk 190 and local chicken Tk 740 per kg.
Among leafy vegetables, red amaranth was Tk 20 a bunch, bottle gourd leaves Tk 50 a bunch, water spinach Tk 20 for two bunches, Malabar spinach Tk 40 and stem amaranth Tk 40 for two bunches.
Beef was selling for Tk 780–800 per kg, while mutton was Tk 1,300 per kg.
Hilsa weighing around 300 grams each was selling for Tk 1,200–1,300 per kg, while 500–700 gram hilsa was Tk 2,000–2,200 per kg. One-kilogram hilsa was priced at Tk 3,200.
Among other fish, farmed tengra/shing was selling for Tk 300–600 per kg depending on size, while local shing cost Tk 1,200–1,400. Rui was Tk 400–550, local magur Tk 900–1,200, mrigel Tk 350–450, farmed pangas Tk 180–200, shrimp Tk 800–1,400, boal Tk 600–800, large catla Tk 400–550, poa Tk 350–400, pabda Tk 400–450, tilapia Tk 200, koi Tk 200–220, mola Tk 500, batashi tengra Tk 1,400, tengra Tk 500–800, kachki Tk 400 and mixed fish Tk 220 per kg.
