Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will leave Dhaka for New York on Monday, September 21, to attend the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
He is scheduled to address the assembly on September 24.
According to Foreign Ministry sources, the prime minister’s US visit has been shortened. He is expected to leave New York for Dhaka on the night of September 25, a day after his UNGA address.
During his brief stay, Tarique will attend several high-level meetings and hold bilateral talks with leaders from different countries. Bangladesh will also organise discussions on issues including the Rohingya crisis.
The prime minister is also expected to meet UN Secretary-General António Guterres, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, World Bank President Ajay Banga and senior officials of other international organisations.
He is also scheduled to attend a dinner hosted by US President Donald Trump.
This will be Tarique Rahman’s first address to the UN General Assembly as Bangladesh’s prime minister.
